The 2024 Election

The 2024 Election

I do not often share political viewpoints publicly, but have been feeling lately that I need to stop being silent in this area, with our election so close. I also realize that the political spirit is quick to divide…my heart is to communicate what I’m processing and to be a voice of reason, to bring awareness regarding important topics.

People are not our enemy, no matter what their political or other viewpoints are. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12

If you’re a Christian wondering why I vote, my belief systems are based on a couple things:

1. I’ve been given authority in my country to vote – the Lord has called me to steward this privilege well, just like anything else I have been given responsibility for. It is essential that I vote. If I do not, I leave the choice of who runs our country to those who do not love the Lord. Included in the prayer Jesus taught His disciples was a plea that the Father’s will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. I have a responsibility to partner with Him in voting for who would most carry the values and vision of heaven in my country.

2. No candidate or leader will make perfect choices, or fully align with my beliefs. In many cases, they may not align in a lot of areas. However, my job is to listen to what the Lord is saying and who He is on for the current season of leadership in my country…even if I don’t like them or their personality, or I don’t respect them, etc. God has always partnered with flawed people to accomplish His will on the earth, even though He knew they would make mistakes. I am not responsible for my leaders’ mistakes – I am responsible for my decision to follow the Lord.

I believe this is the election of our generation. I have never felt as passionate or compelled to vote as I do right now. Our kids, grandkids, and generations beyond will be directly impacted by who is elected. I say this for a number of reasons.

I have generally considered myself an independent, as I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, and independents over the years, based on their platform and how closely it aligned with what I value. What I communicate is not coming from a partisan viewpoint, but instead from a place of urgency to ask you to consider the future of your family and our country.

When Donald Trump first became the Republican candidate in the 2016 election, I was upset. And, I felt similarly with Hillary. I was hoping there was someone on the ballot I could respect, who cared about the policies I did, who could disagree with others respectfully and hold their own. It felt like there was so much division and animosity created because of the rhetoric Trump was constantly pushing – giving people derogatory nicknames, the constant “fake news” talk regarding the media, etc. Then, January 6th happened, and Trump was blamed for causing the event. It felt like he was a stubborn child who couldn’t come to terms with losing his favorite toy.

However, so much has happened in the past four years. Here’s some of what I’m thinking through:

Censorship:

COVID mandates, vaccines, and heavy restrictions regarding speaking about it. Elon Musk bought the X platform, and subsequently released the X files, which revealed just how much the Biden administration was involved in censoring information regarding covid, among other things. Much of what was censored, including people speaking out against the vaccine due to side effects, has since been proven true.

Harris / Walz: Support government censorship of “misinformation”. Harris was a part of this agenda during the Biden administration.

Trump / Vance: Vow to reduce censorship and promote free speech.

In addition, the narrative being pushed by the media, in many cases as Trump has claimed, has been proven to distort events to align with the political leanings of the people who run them.

Gender Ideology:

Trans activists have worked hard to infuse schools to push an agenda that makes kids question their sex, and teach kids in many cases to hide their questioning from parents, even using different gendered pronouns at school. In California, schools can now legally hide a child’s use of different pronouns from parents.

In addition, trans activists support “gender-affirming care” for children, which includes “puberty blockers” (which can cause permanent damage), as well as the physical removal and/or reconstruction of reproductive organs.

Harris / Walz: Support this ideology, and its normalcy in our schools.

Trump / Vance: Want to privatize the education system, giving vouchers to parents to send kids to the school of their choosing, causing competition between schools to actually teach what parents want their kids to learn, and increase transparency with parents.

Immigration:

8 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office, up from 3 million when Trump was in office. On Biden’s first day in office, he removed the restrictions on immigration Trump had set up, and loosened many of the immigration policies via executive orders over the next 100 days.

Harris / Walz: Plan to grant illegals amnesty. If this happens, there are enough illegals living in swing states that the US would become a one-party country within a few years. Illegals would almost exclusively vote Democrat, as they are looking for as much free $ as possible and support the policies that got them into the US in the first place.

Trump / Vance: Want to deport as many illegals as possible, starting with criminals. No amnesty given, instead pointing immigrants to pursue legal pathways into the US.

War:

The Ukraine and Israel conflicts show no sign of stopping. We have sent $44 billion to Ukraine to fund the war since it started, and $18 billion to Israel in the last year. Under the current administration, it is clear new wars will continue, and potentially move into a more global war (WWIII).

Harris / Walz: Keep funding wars and sending money overseas

Trump / Vance: Negotiate to end wars and focus on strengthening the US military

Another big factor for me is seeing the team joining Trump in this race…to mention a couple, the major independent candidate, RFK Jr, in addition to Elon Musk, who used to align with the democratic party. The collective strength and vision they provide across many sectors is the kind of strength we need as a country to move forward.

These are just a few of the big factors for me – there are many more.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for sticking with me. I’m praying for our country and asking that you do as well – and please vote!

🙏
